From: Emma Mitchell <emmy.k.mitchell@gmail.com>

The first thing I would like to say, is that I had an incredible amount of fun today. And not only did I get to do some of the coolest science experiments, but I also met some really cool people.

When we arrived, we introduced ourselves to the people we didn't know, then went straight into the fun and action of the makey makey's, the burning of different elements and the mixing of different substances, when we would put two mixtures and water into a test tube and wait until suddenly the clear substance would turn pitch black.

I had so much fun with my team, especially when Ramsey gave us the chance to go completely overboard with making a whole band of instruments (well stairs and card board boxes), out of circuit boards.

THANK YOU SO MUCH RAMSEY! I had so much fun!

Mr Musallam,

It was a great day at the camp. My favorite part was the Makey Makey. I never thought I could make a Minecraft controller on my sleeve. I also met some new friends. I would love to come back.

Paragraph from Jack Malone

The science camp at SHC was very fun! It started off with the marshmallow pasta challenge. The marshmallow had to be on top of the structure. My group and I ended up making a very unstable Eiffel Tower looking structure that measured at 48 cm, which was only 4 cm below the winners. The Makey Makeys were really fun and probably my favourite part of the day. It was really exciting to explore all the things you could do with them and I was very impressed with all the creations everyone had made when we were done. The Chemistry project was also really interesting even though I burnt my finger. Changing the colour of fire made me feel as if I was in Harry Potter or Percy Jackson. Lighting bubbles on fire was a great way to end the day.

Reflections

Today at SHCP STEM I learned a lot of cool things. We experimented with Bunsen Burners and the different colorations that certain minerals made. Ramsey made the experiment fun and exciting by giving us Makey Makeys, so we could do whatever we wanted, our own way. I really enjoy this camp as I have done it many times before. It's a shame it was only a one day experience, there are so many things we could explore, so much to discover. However, I'm glad I had this experience. Peace out, browski(s).

Sincerely,

Dear Mr. Musallam,

I'm sorry for the late response to your email. I was out for most of the day and just got home.

I really liked all the activities we did yesterday in this science class. I particularly liked the Makey Makey activity and the flame test. I liked both of these activities because it was up to me and my imagination to create or make something. I found it really awesome to be able to make the fire change into different colors by burning different minerals inside the fire. Overall, I had a science-filled, super fun day in this class.

Sincerely,

Hello all,

I absolutely loved the class; it was absolutely perfect! I had a lot of fun! My favorite was the Makey Makey with Flappy Catch. Maybe in the summer my mom can buy me one!! I like how you first aided us with a little setting up, gave us a hint on what to do it on, then let us use our imagination to create something great. You let us explore on our own which I enjoyed and that's what I think science is all about. I also enjoyed all noodles and marshmallow challenge. I think the "fire bubbles" were cool too. I have never seen anything like that before…EVER! I wish I can take the workshop over again even if I do everything the same because I thought it was a lot of fun. I enjoy how we got to do all those experiments and you taught us the science behind each one. I'm looking forward to doing your summer program. Also, thanks for the lunch I thought it was great! I hope to see you in 9th grade.

Thanks,
Katelyn Lee

Dear Mr. Musallam,

I loved this camp, and I had a great time. I really don't see anything that should be changed because the camp was just perfect in my eyes. I wish I could participate in this stem class again. In fact I am already enrolled in your summer class and I am looking forwards to it.
Thanks so much for hosting this fun and exciting camp. This is like my favorite class ever! My favorite project was when we used the makey makey tool to make a flappy catch game. I had a fantastic time putting the electrons under the fire. I love how the class was so hands on and how you taught us using technology to aid your teaching. I had a great time! Thank you for hosting; see you later.

Sincerely,
Alyson

Today was a really fun because we got to use fire to experiment with colors of heated ions and used chemicals to watch how they react when mixed. Also, we learned about atoms and different chemicals. Using the Makey Makey was an exciting experience in which I learned that any conductive material can be used as a controller. Finally, the pasta marshmallow tower was stimulating and it brought out the creativeness inside of me. It was one of the most exciting day of my life.

I could not think of a better way to spend my day. The Makey Makey was my favorite part of the day. The possibilities are endless with the Makey Makey, especially the possibilities for Flappy Bird controllers. I really liked the open educational environment, because we got to explore science in our own way. We weren't being told the world is this way or that way, but encouraged to find the answer on our own. I really appreciate Mr. Musallam's unique approach to learning; I have found it most effective. Thank you, Mr. Musallam.

reflection number 2

sorry the first one was sent by accident

Thank you for the most amazing day of my life. I loved the makey makey, and I hope that my parents can buy me one. It made me think "outside the box". I also liked when we put the different chemicals into the fire to make them burn and then it would change different colors. The most fun part was the makey makey because we got to make a game controller out of and apple! Thanks again!

      hank you very much!

The science and tech workshop I did yesterday was awesome! I loved doing all the experiments, playing with the Makey Makey and experimenting with the bunts and burners. My favorite part of the camp was either playing with the Makey Makey or at the end with the methane bubbles and lighting them on fire! It was so cool! I loved meeting all the new kids and getting to know them I think I made some cool friends. There was no real "bad" parts for me so it was I guess perfect!

From Kristen😃 have a nice day!😎

I had very much fun at the science camp. I got to burn methane bubbles, put elements in fire, and many other fun activities. My favorite was burning elements in the fire. My favorite element to burn was strontium because of its cool red color. I also like the makey makey. I got to play multiply games with it just by high fiving someone instead of using the keyboard and mouse. Burning methane bubbles was fun especially when you burned them in mid air. I hope I can go to this science camp again later.

Reflection
I have to say that I couldn't have spent my Saturday better. I had a blast playing around with the Makey Makey (or how I like to call it Mickey Mickey). At SHC Stem Camp I did everything from creating a band on the stairs to building a tower out of spaghetti and a marshmallow. Ramsey is a great teacher he is so enthusiastic and energized about science and is able to share his love and knowledge with everyone. He was able to prove that electrons are real in such a fun and straight forward way. I greatly enjoyed meeting new people, experimenting, and facing different challenges. I wish the camp lasted for a month so I could learn more about chemistry and physics, and do more epic experiments.
